Real history

Bonanza was settled in 1877 and was the first of the two Yankee Fork towns; it had 600 people by 1881. Fires in 1889 and 1897 destroyed many buildings, and it became a ghost town after the area's last major mine closed in 1911. None of its buildings have been restored (Deseret News, 1998).

Ghost stories

These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.

Lizzie King Our creepiness rating 💀💀💀💀💀
The Deseret News (1998) relayed the local story: Lizzie King's first husband was shot and killed, and when she and her second husband were later killed, the women of Bonanza would not let her be buried in the town cemetery, so the three lie on Boot Hill. The murders were never solved. An interpretive aide offered guesses ("Maybe they killed each other") but said "It's a mystery." This is a crime legend, not a ghost claim. Source: Deseret News, 1998.
