Real history

Sister Mary Claver Coleman of the Sisters of Mercy founded Cripple Creek's hospital in 1894 in a wooden building on East Eaton Street; the Sisters then built this brick building, completed in 1898, as its second home during the gold rush; it later became a nursing home and is now a hotel (Hotel St. Nicholas).

KRDO reported in 2026 that co-owner Sura-Quay Arbon described a bolt rolling off a closet shelf and a screw dropping from a ceiling with no screws and hitting her head. The reporter joined a paranormal team using EMF readers and spirit boxes overnight; the hotel's own site lists spirits it calls Petey, the Miner and "Stinky."
