Real history
Calico was founded in 1881 as a silver-mining town. Walter Knott bought it in the 1950s and rebuilt all but five original buildings to look as they did in the 1880s, and it is now the county park Calico Ghost Town (Wikipedia).

A San Bernardino County supervisor's office promoted evening ghost tours at the park, including a Main Street tour, a Maggie Mine tour and a "Haunted Schoolhouse" tour, plus an annual Ghost Haunt event. It did not describe specific sightings. Source: SB County District 1, 2021.
