Real history
The inn and saloon were built in 1836 and later joined. William Caffee, who had shot a man, hid under its floorboards and was hanged nearby on November 1, 1842, before a crowd of about 5,000 (Driftless Times, 2024). The inn closed in 1957 and reopened in 1974 (Wikipedia).
Ghost stories
These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.
Citing Chad Lewis and Terry Fisk's Wisconsin Road Guide to Haunted Locations, Driftless Times reports that objects move, a headless miner appears, and that manager Walker Calvert (1978–82) said Caffee played pranks on him. Source: Driftless Times, 2024.
