Real history
A county poor farm ran on the land from 1850 to 1910. Death counts vary: paranormal investigator Becky Carter told KRNA she found records of 113 people who died on the property across the poor-farm and manor eras (KRNA), and the manor's history page is cited for 82 in the poor-farm era (Edinburgh Manor). Its building was then demolished for Edinburgh Manor, which housed the poor, the elderly and the incurably insane until November 2010; documents and belongings were left behind (Iowa PBS).
