Real history

Whitney was platted in 1900 as a logging town and was the main station on the narrow-gauge Sumpter Valley Railway. Its Oregon Lumber Company mill burned in 1918, and the town declined. The post office ran from 1901 to 1943, and logging faded in the 1940s (Wikipedia).
