Real history

The State Historical Society says the house was built in 1884 as the private home of Asa Fisher, sold to the state in 1893 and used as the governor's residence until 1960; twenty governors lived there (SHSND).

The State Historical Society's 2017 blog post by Johnathan Campbell traces three folktales. A girl said to be buried in the basement does not fit the record: Gov. Briggs's daughter Estella died in 1898 and is buried in Howard Lake, Minnesota. A rumored governor murder traces to a 1927 shooting in a Bismarck police log (SHSND, 2017).

Ghost stories

These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.

Campbell wrote that most paranormal groups found nothing, but one recorded a slow-moving electromagnetic signature between the parlor piano and the back entry, alongside stories of moving curtains, footsteps and closing doors. Source: SHSND, 2017.
