Real history

The six ovens, each 30 feet high, were built by Swiss Italian masons and operated from 1876 to 1879 for the silver town of Ward, two miles away, which declined after 1880 (Wikipedia).

Nevada State Parks says the ovens were later used to shelter travelers and had a reputation as a stagecoach bandit hideout (Nevada State Parks).
