Facts below are drawn from the linked sources.

Approximate area. The map shows only a rough area for this place, not an exact location.

Real history

Built as North Hall, a women's residence designed by Helena architects J. G. Link and C. S. Haire, it served as a women's residence until 1987 (Historic Montana). Sources date it to 1922 (Historic Montana) or 1923 (UM Library). It was renamed in 1955 for Lois Reat Brantly, housemother from 1923 to 1939 (UM Library), and in 1987 it became office space (UM news release, 1988). The Montana Kaimin calls it an administrative building today (Montana Kaimin, 2024).

Ghost stories

These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.

An unverified legend Our creepiness rating 💀💀💀💀💀
This is a legend, not a documented event. In 2022 NBC Montana wrote that, according to legend, the spirit of a young woman who died in 1929 haunts the hall. Source: NBC Montana, 2022. In 2024 the Montana Kaimin reported the common version (a hanging in a second-floor bathroom, or in other tellings a fall from a window), said campus ghost stories took off in the 1980s, and quoted academic adviser Sophia Etier, who found no verifiable evidence and called the stories mostly fiction spread by gossip. Staff told the paper of cold spots and a door closing on its own. Source: Montana Kaimin, 2024.
