Real history
Ground was broken in 1926 on a former dump by the Main Street bridge. Col. Edward J. Baker, who with his niece Dellora Norris inherited a Texaco fortune, built it (Wikipedia). It opened in 1928, and Baker lived in the penthouse until he died in 1959 (St. Charles History Museum, 2023).
