Real history

Sources differ on the first burial: a 1917 manuscript gives Eliza Scott in November 1844, while Blue Island Sun-Standard accounts list William B. Nobles in 1838 (Wikipedia); WBEZ uses 1838. When the railroad bypassed the settlement in the early 1850s, families moved away and some took their dead with them; there have been almost no burials since the 1980s (WBEZ, 2024). An 1864 deed reserved one acre for the graveyard, and the cemetery is enclosed by Rubio Woods (Wikipedia).

Ghost stories

These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.

The woman in white and the phantom house Our creepiness rating 💀💀💀💀💀
Residents tell WBEZ of a woman in white and an apparition of a house, along with a rumor, unproven, that Al Capone dumped bodies in the nearby pond. Some say the stories have drawn vandals who damage headstones. Source: WBEZ, 2024.
