Real history
The Queen Mary sailed for Cunard on the North Atlantic from 1936 to 1967, served as a troopship in World War II, and has since been a hotel, museum and event space in Long Beach (Wikipedia).
The Los Angeles Times reported in 2018 that the ship's operators were reopening B340 to overnight guests after it had been closed for nearly 40 years, calling it a publicity effort (Los Angeles Times, 2018). Sources differ on how long: CBS Los Angeles quoted the ship's general manager reopening it "after 30 years" (CBS Los Angeles, 2018).
Ghost stories
These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.
The ship's own archived room page claims guests in B340 reported knocking at night, lights and the sink faucet turning on by themselves, bedcovers pulled off, and a dark figure at the foot of the bed. Source: Queen Mary (archived page).
The Los Angeles Times reported in 2002 that, according to a researcher it quoted, writers embellished one ghost account and invented the murder of a purser in B340. It said the tales have been part of the ship's lore since soon after it docked in 1967. Source: Los Angeles Times, 2002.
