Real history

General manager Kim Porter told KCWY in 2025 that the hotel opened in 1911 and is named for Owen Wister's novel "The Virginian." She also said it was a brothel in the early 1900s; that claim is hers and was not confirmed in this check (KCWY, 2025).

Ghost stories

These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.

Hank and the boy Our creepiness rating 💀💀💀💀💀
Porter told KCWY that people who see anything describe a man holding a little boy's hand in the hallway. She tied them to Hank, a night manager who died of a heart attack in a dining room booth, and a boy who died of pneumonia in one of the rooms. She said four paranormal investigators all heard "leave" in a basement room. Source: KCWY, 2025.
