Real history
Cowboy State Daily describes the lobby as "100% Old West Wyoming" and reports that children staying at the hotel write notes to the ghost of Emily, said to have died of cholera there in the early 1900s (Cowboy State Daily, 2023). The story is a legend; no record of her death was found in this check.
The hotel says it was founded in 1880 near the Bozeman Trail, and that in 1908 its original rough barroom was replaced with an elegant saloon with a stained-glass back bar and embossed tin ceiling (Occidental Hotel).
The hotel runs rooms, a café, a saloon and a restaurant, and has its own museum (Occidental Hotel).
