Real history
Captain and Mrs. Andrew Tainter commissioned the Richardsonian Romanesque building, constructed in 1889, in memory of their daughter Mabel, who died in 1886 at age 19. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (Wikipedia). The theater, built with 313 seats (Wikipedia), now has 261 after its seats were widened (Mabel Tainter Center), and keeps hand-stenciling, carved white pine arches and a working Steere and Turner tracker organ (Mabel Tainter Center).
