Real history

Founded in 1878 as Alma, the town was renamed six months later for shopkeeper William Bowes; Bowesmont had 131 people in 1940. After the 1997 Red River flood the federal government bought the properties and removed or moved the buildings. Former residents still gather at the church each July (Wikipedia).
