Real history
The hotel was built between 1907 and 1908 on the site of two earlier hotels of the same name that had burned down, and was added to the Nevada State Register of Historic Places in 1981 (Wikipedia).
Carson Now wrote in 2018 that it opened in 1908, housed Army Air Corps soldiers in World War II and closed in 1945, and that rancher Edgar "Red" Roberts bought it at a 2003 auction for $360,000 (Carson Now, 2018). The Northern Nevada Business Weekly reported in December 2004 that Roberts had bought the hotel for about $360,000 at a tax sale the previous year (Northern Nevada Business Weekly, 2004).
