Real history
Preston Boyd Moss and his wife Mattie built the 28-room house in 1903 for $105,000. Their daughter Melville lived there until her death in 1984, when a community effort saved it (Wikipedia).
Sources differ: Wikipedia says 28 rooms (Wikipedia); the Montana National Register sign calls it a 25-room structure built in 1902–1903 (HMdb: Moss Mansion marker).
Ghost stories
These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.
In 2026 KTVQ reported that staff hear piano notes playing when no one is in the room, linked to Melville and Mattie Moss, who were pianists. Source: KTVQ, 2026.
