Real history
John Hirst built the hotel in 1891 (sources differ: some date the brick building to 1892, after an early fire), and it burned in 1913 and again in 1978 and reopened as a restaurant in 1979 (Wikipedia). A multi-building fire damaged it on June 21, 2022 (FOX 2 Detroit, 2022). In August 2026 a property-line court case blocking restoration was set for a new trial in December 2026 (Tri-County Times, 2026).
