Real history
The sanatorium opened in 1910 as a small two-story facility; the larger five-story building opened in 1926 and the hospital closed in 1961. The building reopened in 1962 as the Woodhaven Geriatric Center. Sources differ on when it closed: Wikipedia says 1980 (Wikipedia), and a memorial timeline lists a court order to close on July 25, 1980, though it marks that date unconfirmed (WHS memorial timeline); the Frazier Kentucky History Museum dates the state shutdown to 1982 (Frazier History Museum).
