Real history
The National Park Service says claims were staked in December 1903 and the mine was in full operation by 1907, its mile-long aerial tramway carrying 70 tons of ore a day at peak. Its value ebbed by 1912 and the last attempt at operations ended in 1942 (NPS).
From 2008 to 2017 the area was closed while NPS stabilized tramway towers and terminals and covered more than 50 mine openings (NPS).
