Facts below are drawn from the linked sources.

Approximate area. The map shows only a rough area for this place, not an exact location.

Real history

In December 1931, railroad foreman William McClain was beaten to death with a spike maul by worker Louis McBride after a dispute over how many days McBride could work, and the light was first sighted soon after. NBC's Unsolved Mysteries aired a segment on December 16, 1994 (Encyclopedia of Arkansas). KATV spells the foreman's name McLean and reports McBride was executed six months later (KATV, 2026).

These are reported legends, not verified events. The creepiness score (1–5) is Spook Atlas's own editorial rating, not a measurement.

The lantern Our creepiness rating 💀💀💀💀💀
Locals say the light is the murdered foreman still carrying his lantern. Swamp gas and Interstate 30 headlights have been offered as explanations, but the light was reported decades before the highway was built. Source: Encyclopedia of Arkansas.
